Famous People Born In Brooklyn New York
With the movie industry being located in New York in the early days of
movies it is common for people that are famous in the movies to be born in
Brooklyn. Here is a list of some of the more famous actors and other
personalities.
One of my favorites is Jackie Gleason who starred in the Honeymooners TV
show which was all about New York City and the struggles people had back in
the day. His get rich schemes are born out of the daily life of making it in
New York City.
Actor and producer Woody Allen is always putting the early days of NYC in
films. His movie Radio Days was shot all over the city. I watched them film
parts in Rockaway Beach. Shots of Annie Hall have Brooklyn in the
background. Richard Dreyfuss from the movie the Goodbye Girl was born in
Brooklyn.
The beautiful Lauren Bacall who starred in a lot of famous movies with
Humphrey Bogart was born in Brooklyn in 1924. Speaking of beautiful women
Brooklyn is also the birthplace of Marisa Tormei and one of my favorites
Jennifer Connelly.
Funny man Mel Brooks often talks about his early days in Brighton Beach in
interviews. Speaking of funny men comedians there was a lot born in Brooklyn
with vaudeville acts being in Coney Island and all. The three stooges were
all born here as is Pat Cooper. Often his comedy is based on good ole
Brooklyn.
Other famous funny people born in Brooklyn are Steve Lawrence, Richard
Lewis, Anne Meara, Jerry Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Rosie Perez, Joan Rivers,
Chris Rock, Adam Sandler and Jerry Seinfeld. With Saturday Night live being
shot in the city many up and coming stars come from here.
Actors that use their Italian accent in TV and the movies are Tony Danza and
Scott Baio who are good old Brooklyn boys. I believe Tony has a restaurant over in the
Mill Basin area. The beautiful Alyssa Milano was also born in Brooklyn.
Some famous singers have been born here most notable are Neil Diamond Neil
Sedaka, Barbara Streisand, Barry Manilow and the sultry Carole King.
Brooklyn is also the home for many in the rap world as Jay Z, Foxy Brown and
Lil Kim were born here.
I am sure I am leaving some people off this list as there really are a lot
of famous people born and raised in Brooklyn that it is nearly impossible to
list them all. I just got an e-mail telling me Joe Torre the manager of the
Los Angeles Dodgers and former manager of the New York Yankees was born in Brooklyn and went to St. Francis Prep. |
