Last week I over did my riding. I joined Daily Mile a few months back but now I am logging my miles on the bike. I can do a 5 mile bike ride with no problem but last week I decided that I could do more. I added a 7 and 8 mile rides and that was a mistake.
Since I did 32 actual miles on the bike by the end of the week my legs were killing me. Not actually hurting but more of a tired/jellyfish type thing. I need to learn how to stretch before getting on the bike. By Saturday I was in the recliner with my feet up and that made my back feel like shit. It is not a good thing to be laying around for days.
The Daily Mile is a great way to track your miles. I use the My Tracks app on my Droid 4 and then convert them with Tracks2miles and I am good to go. I joined the Affiliate Summit daily challenge and found myself tired of clicking to see who was in the top 20. If you are not in the top 20 you have to click a See More button. I was in 29th place after doing some painstaking miles on the elliptical.
I decided I needed to be in the top 20 so I went out and did my crazy amount of bike riding. This was a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. I did get up to #20 so I don’t have to click the more button but now I find myself clicking the more button to see if anyone is catching me.
At one time it would be nothing to do 50-75 miles on my bike when I was younger but being so out of shape it amazes me that 30 miles in a week hurts. The body is an amazing animal especially when you get older. While I am building great leg strength I am not losing any weight. I have been a steady 231 pounds since I got back on the bike. Guess I need to watch more of what I eat, but I am not really eating that bad.
One good thing about this weeks ride is I found a good bike store by me and they are a Fuji dealer to boot. One of my rides was 7 miles to the bike store and I had a great conversation with the owner. I needed to put together a spare tire kit for the bike and he gave me some pointers of what I should carry on the bike. I ordered a new rack for the back and bought a spare tube. As I was leaving the store I was checking out the new Fuji bikes and have my eye on a Fuji Crosstown 4.0 that was a beautiful looking gold bike.
This week I plan on taking it a little easier and maybe do a few miles. I am planning to do the 22 mile loop around Jamaica Bay but I think it is too soon for that. Maybe one day I will wake up and see there is no wind and just do it.
I have two questions for my readers! What is in your spare tire kit and what is your plan for meals when trying to lose weight by biking? Would love to hear from you!
