On a Tuesday in October the Dollyrots will be coming to Brooklyn. This Tuesday October 2nd The Dollyrots along with Prima Donna will be invading Williamsburg’s The Knitting Factory playing their gritty style of punk rock that makes you want to yell for more when they are done.
This will be the second time we will see The Dollyrots at the Knitting factory. They played an amazing set here last year in support of their “A little messed up” album. The new “Self Titled” album is slightly different than the previous record and has a much stronger edge to it. This album was made for the fans and by the fans using a Kickstarter campaign but I have a feeling it is the album that Kelly and Luis have always wanted to make. Here is the first video off the album “Hyperactive”
This album needs to be played in order to appreciate the ride it gives you. In some ways it reminds me of the way I use to play Meatloafs “Bat out of Hell” over and over again on my 8-track back in the summer of 1978. Once I put this album on it automatically goes on repeat all and plays over and over.
Like the lyrics say in the song “Hyperactive” – “All we are living for is to die so lets enjoy the ride” This album produces so many journeys along the way. We go from “Satellites” to “South of the Border with a little bit of Los Angeles feel along the way. “Kelly’s bass playing is amazing on this album. She often gets overlooked because of her amazing vocals but on this album the bass really stands out. It could be due to then bringing back John Fields who produced a couple of the earlier Dollyrots albums. Her steady bass lines lets Luis explore with some loud and cutting edge riffs and how it all holds up together is amazing.
While I could go on and on about why I will be at the Knitting Factory on Tuesday night I will just let you see for yourself.
